Perth Scorchers have been fined $150,000, with all but $5000 suspended pending five years without further breaches.

The Scorchers self reported the cap issue once they discovered that they were $5000 over the $1.3 million cap last season.

"Following a thorough investigation, we understand that this was not a purposeful breaching of the rules by the Perth Scorchers," Cricket Australia's head of integrity Iain Roy said.

The Scorchers were able to retain majority of their players after the 2014-15 championship win in BBL04, with the addition of likes of Adam Voges, Shaun Marsh and Mitchell Marsh joining the squad for BBL05.

"The Perth Scorchers understand the seriousness of this error and have accepted the fine imposed."

The Scorchers were unable to retain fan favourite, Brad Hogg, Marcus Harris, Michael Carberry and Simon Mackin for the upcoming season, but were able to to make two big signings in Mitchell Johnson and Ian Bell.

The news comes a month out from the start of BBL06 as the Scorchers try to go one step better after a devastating defeat against the Melbourne Stars in BBL05 semi-final.
